Being on the board allows me to serve the community in a way that compliments my work as a local police officer based at the Ruakākā station. I've been here for over five years now, having previously relieved at Waipu and Maungaturoto stations.  So, when I got the permanent position, I was rapt. Throughout my 23 years in the police, I’ve worn many hats, and I’d have to say working rurally has been one of my most rewarding as we get the time to get to know our locals.

Prior to the police, I worked for a number of community groups and managed the Whangarei Council of social services where I worked alongside some real movers and shakers at grass roots level.  My working life has always reflected the same thing - it’s all about people.

Having worked in different roles I have come to learn that no one agency, group or service can do it alone.

Which leads me to one of my favourite sayings, albeit clichē - It’s the team work that makes the dream work.

When I’m not working, I’m most likely to be playing sports, involved in music, travelling or hanging out with friends and family.
